Whatever happens, despite men trying to control everything, God is supreme and is always in control. The following are examples of times in Scripture when man found himself in a difficult situation with little hope. Then God showed up! Read through this partial list of what God has already done and be assured that He is an ever-present help in trouble. The Bible is full of such accounts.
The Lord promised a child to Abraham and Sarah in their old age. Genesis 18:14a, Is anything too hard for the Lord?
He promised to rescue the righteous from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Genesis 18:25b, Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
He parted the Red Sea so the Israelites could pass through to safety. Exodus 14:13, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord which He will show to you today.
He brought down Jericho. Joshua 6:16, Shout! For the Lord has given you the city.
He was with David when he went against Goliah. 1 Samuel 17:47, And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s.
He defeated the prophets of Baal. 1 Kings 18:38a, Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice…and verse 39b, The Lord, He is the God.
He blocked the conspiracy against the building of the wall in Jerusalem. Nehemiah 4:20b, Our God shall fight for us.
He makes the evil conspirator fall into his own pit and plunges his sword into his own heart. Esther 7:10a, So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai.
He restores the repentant. Job 42:12, So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning.
He responds with urgency to help His own. Psalm 18:6, In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God:. He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry came before Him, even into His ears. (You might want to read through this entire passage to see God’s reaction when His own are in trouble. It’s awesome!)
He protected Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. Daniel 3:25, Lo, I see four men loose, and walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
He delivered Daniel from the lions’ den. Daniel 6:22a, My God hath sent His angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me.
And He destroyed Daniels accusers. Daniel 6:24a, And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives.
He defeated death and the grave. Matthew 28:6a, He is not here: for He is risen.
He rescued Peter from Herod’s prison. Acts 12:7, And behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, “Arise up quickly.” And his chains fell off from his hands.
He rescued Paul and Silas from the Philippian jail. Actus 16:26, And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bands were loosed.
He’s given us armor and has warned us of the battle we are fighting. Ephesians 6:12, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
He has promised to never leave us. Hebrews 13:5b-6, For He hath said, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” So that we may boldly say, “The Lord is my Helper, I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”
He is more powerful than Satan. 1 John 4:4b, Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
God is not finished. Revelation 1:17b-18, Fear not; I am the first and the last; I am he that liveth, and was dead: and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
And Philippians 2:10-11, That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things on earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
